This 'toon was way ahead of its time. The music was hip and the cartoon was more for adults than kids, but it was nicely done!!

I LOVE this cartoon! I was an usherette at the Palms Theatre in Phoenix when the cartoon first played. Because my job required me to be in and out of the auditorum, I never did realize my dream--to memorize the entire cartoon. It would have been easy because of the great rhythm and rhyme. I've tried to buy a copy of it over the years but never got one.

Jeff, I think it's great to get a musician's perspective on this cartoon. I'm glad you pointed out how unusual its use of a (virtually) uniform tempo was for a Looney Tune- after a certain period, anyway. In a sense this cartoon is a throwback to toons of the early 1930s, where most of the animation was done in time to the steady beat of a particular piece of music.

[...] For another insightful take on Three Little Bops, jazz:animated has an excellent look at the music of the piece, as well pointing out what should have been obvious to me: the pre-title credit sequence’s Calder influence. Evidently a popular cartoon, Supernatural… Baloney puts the Bops within their cultural context. [...]
